Team CFC success at RideLondon – Enter 2020
Sunday 4th August saw Team CFC riders take on the mighty Prudential Ride London 2019. Richard (second right) sums up his day
“What a brilliant day out with 30,000 cycling friends! Ride London 2019 was to quote my friend John “Best Day I’ve had on the bike for a long, long time”. After an early start I made my way to Stratford for the start process. The atmosphere at the start was great and soon we were ready for the off. I had decided to wait for my friends near tower-bridge so I pulled over and got a coffee and muffin, this was a really nice start to the day and it was still only just 7am!
After that we had the luxury of closed roads, warm temperatures, loads of support on the road. Just not having to stop at any junctions, lights or roundabouts makes for such a great ride and the tempo you can maintain is better as a result. We whipped through the first 50 miles at a really good pace, the hills start to come then so the average speed drops, but everyone is in high spirits and enjoying the day so it was actually nice to slow down for a bit. Once over the two main climbs of the day it was a fast flat ish run into the finish. Riding into central London on roads that are usually clogged with traffic is really an experience everyone should have, it’s sublime! We finished and met up with friends and family at the CFC area in Green Park, medals around our necks and luxuriating in the feelings of such a great day out on our bikes. I urge anyone thinking about it to sign up now, you won’t regret it!”
