| Here are some of the ways that people have raised money for Cyclists Fighting Cancer The Vatternrundan CFC's biggest fundraising event of the year takes place in mid June and, with no minimum fundraising target, places fill up quick. You can read more about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here as well as registering your interest. The Ireman Charity founder and trustee Mike Grisenthwaite recently took on the Half Ireman in Groomsport, Co. Down, along with other friends of CFC. Between them thay raised a great total and also smashed the course record for the team relay. Given that the average age of the team was well over 40 the result was outstanding. Matt Knight sets out to disprove this (and achieve a few other goals) as he takes on La Ruta de Los Conquistadores in November. The race, a bastion of slightly unhinged mountain bikers, covers some 300km and stretches from the Pacific coast to the Carribean coast of Costa Rica. Check out Matt's Just Giving page. Unlike most of the 'just for fun' challenges that people undertake for CFC La Ruta is a full on competitive race. It is known as the 'Toughest MTB race on Earth' and a quick look at the course pretty much confirms this. Contested over 4 days the route encompasses and heady 14,000m of vertical climbing and covers some of the most difficult terrain imaginable. Somehow they still manage to attract in excess of 3,000 lunatics, pardon me, competitors to the event. Three Fat Lads on Bikes In May 2008 Emerson Osmond, Mike Darch and Luke Pickering AKA The Three Fat Lads on Bikes rode from John O'Groats to Land's End, 1,000 miles over 13 days, losing a combined seven stone and raising £5,500 in the process. Visit The Fat Lads CFC page to find out how they got on. |
